Park Info
Known for its fantastic fishing, Streaky Bay on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula has been a popular holiday destination for generations of families. A seven and a half hour drive west of Adelaide, on the road towards the Nullarbor Plain and Western Australia, Streaky Bay is an ideal place to stop on your outback adventure, as well as the perfect escape for a relaxed and fun-filled family getaway.
Discovery Parks – Streaky Bay is situated right on the water in the heart of the town and offers comfortable accommodation with gorgeous views over the ocean. Caravans and tents are well catered for, with plenty of powered sites to set up the van under the tall shady gum trees, as well as unpowered sites so close to the beach you can walk out of your tent and have your toes in the sand in moments.
If you’re after cabin or apartment-style accommodation, there are plenty of choices. The Standard and Superior cabins come complete with well-appointed kitchens, air-conditioning and bunk beds for the kids. There are also Deluxe Waterfront Apartments available in 2-bedroom, 3-bedroom and studio configurations. These modern apartments provide everything you need for a comfortable stay including plenty of living and dining space, private bathrooms, and a verandah outside with an unimpeded view over the water so you can happily sit and watch the sunset every evening.
Park facilities include a playground for the kids and a TV room for them to relax in. There is also a camp kitchen and BBQs where you can cook up a meal all the while enjoying the glorious outlook over the park and the bay. The kids can also enjoy pedal karts available to hire from the park office, where you can also pick up any last minute necessities at the kiosk.
If you’re visiting Streaky Bay, you simply must cast in a line and see if you can catch the evening meal. You will find King George Whiting, salmon, flounder and plenty of other species inhabiting the water just waiting for you to hook. If the kids need other activities, there are plenty of things to do, from boarding down the huge sand dunes at Yanerbie Beach, visiting the Great White Shark replica, or simply enjoying the white sands on the gorgeous beaches in and around the town. There are also museums to visit and the Point Labatt Conservation Park nearby with its large colony of resident Sealions.
Even if you’re only stopping off in Streaky Bay as part of your larger tour of the country, you’ll find a warm welcome and plenty to do. You might soon find yourself delaying your departure as you discover more great fishing spots and relax by the beautifully calm waters around the town. After filling the busy hours in the day, you can watch the sunset over the bay from your camp or accommodation, soaking in the calm of this gorgeous area. Whether your stay is short or long, you’ll be sure to enjoy it at Discovery Parks – Streaky Bay.
